![]() The reality is that the film doesn't really have any merits. it should be based on it's actual merits. That's a pretty poor way to "review" a movie. they've been written by people who originally watched Mortal Kombat as a kid, and love the nostalgic feeling they got from watching it as an adult. The good reviews generally all have a similar theme. As for those who don't. still provides plenty of kick-backside fights, so you've got at least one reason to look at this DVD. But with plenty of beat-'em-up thrills and an awesome techno dance theme tune, this is ideal for those who live and breathe the MK franchise. ![]() Mortal Kombat is hardly Oscar-winning material. I mean who here actually knows Talisa Soto (who plays Kitana) and sends her fan mail? Mind you, she does look great in that tight partially-leathered outfit she sports. This makes the movie difficult to recommend to those who love their extremely high profile acting talent. With the exception of Christopher Lambert who was in the Highlander movies, there's virtually no one here you'll recognize. One criticism I have about the Mortal Kombat movie is the lack of familiar star-studded names. A genius bit of scripting if I say so myself! The movie also manages to throw in a few humourous moments, including a really good bit at the end of the fight between Sonya and Kano. Their only disappointment will be that Raiden doesn't fight. Anyone who enjoys playing the MK video games (particularly those who STILL have a copy of the first game on the Mega Drive or SNES!) will be pleased to see all their favourite fighters in action, including Sub-Zero and Scorpion. The action in this movie is fast paced, and there are fights aplenty. Under the guidance of the god of lightening, Raiden (Christopher Lambert), the fighters must mentally prepare themselves for the fight of their lives. Johnny Cage (Linden Ashby) is a movie actor who wants to prove that he's not a fake and that he can fight for real Sonya Blade (Bridgette Wilson) is a beautiful-but-tough soldier who wants to get her hands on another fighter, Kano, for killing her partner and Liu Kang (Robin Shou), a martial artist who wants to avenge the death of his brother by killing Shang Tsung. The fate of the Earth lies in the hands of three individuals who have entered Mortal Kombat for different reasons. Outworld has beaten Earth in nine straight tournaments, and if they win a tenth they get to take over Earth's realm, and thus us current inhabitants will be completely f*****. And now it's time for a synopsis.Īn evil dude by the name of Shang Tsung and his minions from the realm of Outworld have set up a once-in-a-generation fighting tournament called Mortal Kombat. If you think Sonya is that ugly bird who use to appear in Eastenders, and the term "Finish him" means a girl breaking up with a guy, then you've clearly got a lot of catching up to do. Mortal Kombat is based on the video game series of the same name. Wanna read my review on it? OK, but there's something you need to know.
